Spleen et Idéal

Dreamscapes

This is a series that joins several of my favorite subjects. First, I always enjoyed poetry and especially the writings from Charles Baudelaire. Secondly, I have been attracted by cemeteries, as they represent timeless places that almost go untouched over time. They bring to me memories from lost love ones, from unknown people that I might have crossed in the streets, from famous people I wish I met, or from total strangers. Finally, I wanted to capture scenes that could be taken from dreams, ephemeral images that one vaguely remembers, not very clear but clear enough to remind me of where it was or what happened.

This work then combines these elements into a small series of photographs associated to the Poet’s work, Spleen and Ideal, as a gothic and dream like experience. All pictures were taken between the cemeteries of Greenwood in Brooklyn, Sleepy Hollow and Hudson in New York State.
